About Us

We are primarily a Religious Education Council known simply as The Council.

Our Religious Education Council (REC) plays a crucial role in the educational system of the United Apostolic & Charismatic Church for several reasons:

  1. Representation of Interests: The REC represents the collective interests of a wide variety of professional associations and faith communities. It aims to deepen and strengthen the provision of Religious Education.
  2. Understanding Faith and Belief: The ability to understand the faith or belief of individuals and communities and how these may shape their culture and behavior is an invaluable asset for our leaders in modern-day society.
  3. Academic Exploration: Explaining religious and non-religious worldviews in an academic way allows all people to engage with the complexities of belief, avoid stereotyping, and contribute to an informed debate1.
  4. Policy Making: The REC facilitates joint involvement in decision and policy making at the national church level. It provides a means of communication between member bodies, offering opportunities to share ideas and learn from each other.
  5. Navigating Challenges: Modern clergy face many challenges in today's world, including learning to navigate the world of religion and belief. Religious Education (RE) equips them for this academically demanding task.
  6. Adapting to Change: RE has significantly changed its approach in response to the changing nature of society. The REC proposes a new National Plan for RE to ensure that learning in this area remains academically rigorous and a knowledge-rich preparation for life in a world of great religion and belief diversity.
A Religious Education Council is essential for fostering understanding, promoting informed debate, and preparing young people for a diverse world. It helps to ensure that Religious Education remains relevant, rigorous, and responsive to societal changes.
