About Us
We are primarily a Religious Education Council known simply as The Council.
Our Religious Education Council (REC) plays a crucial role in the educational system of the United Apostolic & Charismatic Church for several reasons:
- Representation of Interests: The REC represents the collective interests of a wide variety of professional associations and faith communities. It aims to deepen and strengthen the provision of Religious Education.
- Understanding Faith and Belief: The ability to understand the faith or belief of individuals and communities and how these may shape their culture and behavior is an invaluable asset for our leaders in modern-day society.
- Academic Exploration: Explaining religious and non-religious worldviews in an academic way allows all people to engage with the complexities of belief, avoid stereotyping, and contribute to an informed debate1.
- Policy Making: The REC facilitates joint involvement in decision and policy making at the national church level. It provides a means of communication between member bodies, offering opportunities to share ideas and learn from each other.
- Navigating Challenges: Modern clergy face many challenges in today's world, including learning to navigate the world of religion and belief. Religious Education (RE) equips them for this academically demanding task.
- Adapting to Change: RE has significantly changed its approach in response to the changing nature of society. The REC proposes a new National Plan for RE to ensure that learning in this area remains academically rigorous and a knowledge-rich preparation for life in a world of great religion and belief diversity.
